Phil is a staunch supporter of every plank in the Women’s Equality Agenda.

Phil Steck supports a woman’s right to choose abortion that is safe and legal.

“We try our best to educate our sons and daughters to make correct choices. However, we are human. Mistakes are made.

I want my own daughter to have all safe medical options available to her if such an event occurs, especially when she may not be in any position for medical or financial reasons to give birth to or to support a child.”

As an employment and civil rights attorney, Phil Steck has in the past and is currently representing:

  • womenwho were paid less than a man for similar work in violation of the Equal Pay Act,
  • women who were victims of sexual harassment,
  • women who were treated differently in the workplace because of their gender,
  • women who were retaliated against for exercising their right to free speech guaranteed under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution,
  • women who were discriminated against because they had a disability or because of their race or ethnicity or age,
  • women who were retaliated against because they made a complaint of discrimination,
  • and women who lost their job because they were involved in a same sex relationship.

“Representing employees as an attorney is difficult work. Employees face many obstacles to obtaining justice because this is not a traditional legal field like the personal injury cases that are so heavily advertised on TV.

I have chosen this field, employment and civil rights law, for one reason – it is the right thing to do. It makes me feel that my law practice is not just a way to earn a living, but a way to improve conditions for employees in our State and our nation.”

At the same time, Phil understands that, as in all legal matters, human behavior is complex, and not every allegation is true. Businesses accused of discrimination, like all citizens, should not be presumed guilty just because a claim is made.
